The Republican primary for governor took another chaotic turn today, with allies of Trump-endorsed Burt Jones pushing a new resolution in the State Senate attacking Jones’ opponent Brad Raffensperger for his record as Secretary of State.

This comes after the Jones campaign released a new ad last week viciously attacking Raffensperger, and demonstrates just how fully Jones is leaning into his long record of MAGA extremism and election denial to defend himself against an onslaught of attacks.

“Burt Jones and his allies would rather fight their fellow Republicans than fight for the people of Georgia. It’s a disgrace that they are using valuable legislative session time to play politics, especially when so many Georgia families are struggling with rising costs across the board,” said Jake Strickland, communications advisor to the Democratic Party of Georgia.

The Republican primary for governor has been defined by brutal infighting that has shaped this fast-accelerating race to the right. Jones is now frequently using his Twitter to viciously go after his opponents for being insufficiently MAGA, and the candidates have frequently sparred over Jones’ cost-raising plan to eliminate the income tax, with Attorney General Chris Carr saying last month that Jones’ plan would “[raise] taxes on about 90% of Georgians.”
