Help Move Georgia Forward
This year’s state budget cuts $8 billion in state agency funding
Under Brian Kemp’s watch, new reporting indicates that state-funded schools, day care centers, and health services will be hit hardest in the wake of $8 billion in state budget cuts compared to last year.
Since 2024, the federal share of state budget dollars has fallen by more than 38% overall — including a 44% reduction for school funding and a more than 54% reduction for day care facilities and preschools. The steep cuts put state officials in a bind: either replace the funds with state dollars or cut services relied on by thousands of Georgia families.
In the past couple weeks alone — aside from saying back in February that “government can stand a little rightsizing” — Kemp has repeatedly remained silent in response to devastating cuts to critical programs Georgians rely on at both the federal and state level.
“It’s become all too commonplace for Brian Kemp to stand idly by while Georgians suffer and, unfortunately, it isn’t shocking that Georgia doesn’t have a plan to fund schools and keep the lights on at preschools and day care facilities,” said DPG spokesman Alex Yerkey. “Instead of doing anything proactive about the situation, Kemp and Georgia Republicans are once again going to let Georgia families bear the brunt of their incompetence and silence.”
