Today, Inside Elections moved Georgia’s race for governor from tilt-Republican to the more competitive toss-up ranking. This comes as Rick Jackson has been absent on the campaign trail, while Keisha Lance Bottoms has been bringing her message to Georgians all across our state.
This shift in favor of Georgia Democrats underscores the strong momentum on the ground as more Georgians resonate with Keisha’s vision of lowering costs, expanding healthcare, and investing in education.
The shift also comes amidst a bumpy start to the general election for Jackson. Jackson has not held any public events since becoming the Republican nominee, has repeatedly dodged local media interviews, and is refusing to participate in three televised debates with Keisha Lance Bottoms.
Jackson has also failed to unify Georgia Republicans. After a long and bruising primary, Burt Jones is refusing to endorse Jackson and is now openly questioning whether he can win in November – and it’s not just Jones who has issues with Jackson. The AJC reported Thursday that many Republican leaders and activists are “openly skeptical” of Jackson. This comes after one of the nastiest and most bruising GOP primaries in recent state history, in which Jackson’s heavy baggage was exposed ahead of the general election
“Keisha Lance Bottoms is fighting to lower costs and expand healthcare, while Rick Jackson is just a Trump-obsessed billionaire who’s gotten rich off the same healthcare system that’s failed Georgians for years,” said Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Jake Strickland. “The contrast couldn’t be any clearer, and that’s exactly why we have the momentum heading into November.”
