Carter backs tariffs as Georgians pay the cost

Today, GOP U.S. Senate candidate Rep. Buddy Carter voted in favor of upholding Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canada which have led to major price hikes and stuck Georgians with footing the bill.

The vote comes after Carter, a multi-millionaire member of Congress, has stood firmly behind Trump’s tariffs and admitted that tariffs are already causing economic harm.

Carter has previously told Georgians to “be ready” for some “short-term pain” and that he “didn’t want to see” what Trump’s tariffs had done to his retirement account and “just threw it in the file cabinet” to avoid confronting the ugly truth.

Meanwhile, the port of Savannah “faces tariff challenges,” “warn tariffs could impact jobs,” and Georgia small businesses “grapple with uncertainty.”

“Even as Georgians are the ones paying the costs of price-hiking tariffs, Buddy Carter just can’t bring himself to stop bowing to Trump’s MAGA agenda and put Georgians first for once,” said Democratic Party of Georgia Senior Communications Advisor Devon Cruz. “Georgians deserve a U.S. Senator who is laser-focused on making life more affordable, not raising prices because Donald Trump says so.”
