Neither Loeffler Nor Collins Will Stand Up for Georgians

ATLANTA — Congressman Doug Collins is challenging temporary Senator Kelly Loeffler in what will be an expensive and bitter “all-out Republican feud” in Georgia’s Senate special election. 

“This is the last thing Republicans wanted and they owe it all to a questionable appointment of a mega-donor with ethical issues that’s sparked an expensive and divisive intra-party fight at a time when the GOP can least afford it,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “The fact is Georgians can’t trust Kelly Loeffler or Doug Collins to stand up for pre-existing conditions protections, reject corporate tax cuts that threaten Medicare and Social Security, and be the independent voice Georgia needs.”

Washington Republicans are already preparing “to battle Doug Collins” and Loeffler has been up on TV but still polls behind Collins by double digits. Loeffler’s efforts to keep Collins of the race — pledging “100%” support for Trump’s’ toxic agenda and insulting her “friend” Mitt Romney — fell flat but forecast how the competition to the right will continue to hurt both candidates.
