On social media, Rick Jackson called lowering health care costs a “bumper sticker” issue
In a social media statement Thursday, billionaire Rick Jackson dismissed Medicaid expansion, calling it a “bumper sticker” issue.
It’s no surprise given that Jackson has gotten rich off health care – and made more than a billion dollars on state government health care contracts paid by Georgia tax payers.
- Jackson and his health care company have made over a billion dollars from state health care contracts.
- Jackson has been accused of participating in a Medicare kickback scheme, and in 2024 paid 700,000 dollars to “resolve allegations” that he scammed seniors.
- Even Republicans have called out Jackson’s corruption and self enrichment, with Burt Jones taking to the floor of the Georgia Senate earlier this year to denounce Jackson Healthcare as the “culprit of our health care costs in this state more than tripling.”
At the same time, Jackson supports the same policies that have stripped Georgians of health care, sent premiums skyrocketing, and closed rural hospitals across the state.
- Jackson vocally opposes Medicaid expansion, which has resulted in nine rural hospitals shutting their doors since 2010.
- Jackson strongly supports Trump’s Big Ugly Bill that cut health care for 500,000 Georgians and jacked up premium costs more than $860 a month on average.
- Jackson even admitted to supporting Trump’s Big Ugly Bill because it lowered his own taxes – even as it has resulted in the closure of a labor and delivery unit in Lavonia.
While Jackson supports Trump’s policies no matter how much they hurt Georgians, Keisha Lance Bottoms has made clear that she would expand Medicaid and stand up to the president’s attacks on Georgians’ health care access.
“Rick Jackson doesn’t give a damn about ensuring people have access to affordable health care. He’s just another out-of-touch billionaire who’s made his fortune by jacking up our health care costs and juicing no-bid state contracts. He’s truly only out for himself, and his harmful agenda would make life harder for our families,” said Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Jake Strickland.
