Billionaire Rick Jackson has fumbled the entire first week of the general election. He has held no public events, participated in zero interviews with media, and refused to participate in general election debates, and still doesn’t have Burt Jones’ endorsement.
Here’s a quick rundown of Jackson’s flat-out fails throughout this week.
- NO EVENTS: Jackson has been completely absent on the campaign trail, not holding a single event even as Keisha Lance Bottoms has taken her message across the state.
- NO SHOW AT GOP UNITY RODEO: Jackson ducked the Georgia GOP’s 250 Rodeo on Saturday. Meant to convey unity, Jackson’s glaring absence underscored deep divisions in his party.
- REFUSING MEDIA INTERVIEWS: Jackson is refusing to do media interviews, declining to speak with 11Alive and FOX5 even as Keisha Lance Bottoms goes far and wide with her message of lowering costs, expanding healthcare, and investing in education.
- REFUSING TO PARTICIPATE IN DEBATES: Keisha Lance Bottoms has called for three televised debates before the election. But rather than accept the opportunity to discuss the issues that matter most to Georgians, Jackson is flat-out refusing to commit. He has been dodging debates since his disastrous first performance.
- NO ENDORSEMENT FROM BURT JONES: In the latest sign of turmoil roiling through the party, Burt Jones has still not endorsed Jackson more than a week after the election – and in new comments from the floor of the State Senate, Jones pointed to Jackson’s weaknesses and questioned if he can win in November. This comes after months of attacks between the two that highlighted the baggage Jackson is bringing into the general election.
There might be a reason Jackson’s consultants have locked him in his bunker: Jackson has consistently proven himself a weak candidate on the trail. He’s been nothing short of a gaffe machine: admitting to huge investments in oil companies when asked about high gas prices hurting Georgians, boasting about making money off Trump’s tariffs that have been a “gut punch” to small businesses, and bragging about paying lower taxes because of the One Big Beautiful Bill that has stripped 500,000 Georgians of healthcare.
“Rick Jackson has spent the first week of this general election barricaded in his billionaire bunker, terrified to face voters about his record,” said Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Jake Strickland. “He’s dodged events left and right, refused to face the deep divisions in his party, and is now flat-out refusing to commit to debating Keisha Lance Bottoms on the issues that matter most to Georgians. All the money in the world can’t change the fact that Rick Jackson is a weak candidate who does not have what it takes to meet this moment.”
