Atlanta News First: “The problem is that there is no rationale for his candidacy”
Over the weekend, failed and fired former Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley took multiple shots from the panel of Atlanta News First’s On the Record for his “lukewarm” reception from Georgia Republicans and for failing to prove a “rationale for his candidacy.”
The dogpiling on Dooley comes after Gov. Brian Kemp fanned the flames of Georgia’s already “splintered” GOP primary by announcing his official endorsement of Dooley, deepening the rift between Kemp and the “pissed off” Trump team, and further ensuring the primary becomes “a proxy fight over the GOP’s future.”
See for yourself:

- [DAVID JOHNSON] “The problem is there’s no rationale for his candidacy.”
- “He’s been hitting some of the Republican organizations already and it’s been lukewarm at best.”
- “Your key Republican in the media personalities are saying he’s not ready for primetime.”
- “I would be surprised if—unless something dramatic changes—that Dooley even qualifies for the race.”
- [KRISTIN OBLANDER] “The only thing Derek Dooley has proven quite frankly is his inability to hold down a coaching job.”
- [BEN TAYLOR] “[Dooley] has some political headwinds that he’s facing inside of his own party, so it’s going to be a difficult road in any event.”
