As Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms pushes for a gas tax suspension, Burt Jones and Rick Jackson have gone silent and refused to push for relief for Georgians at the pump.
This comes as both Jones and Jackson have praised Trump’s actions that have caused fuel costs to soar in Georgia.
Georgians would like to know: Do Burt Jones and Rick Jackson support bringing back the gas tax, even as Georgians continue to pay more at the pump?
“With Georgians feeling so much pain at the pump, Burt Jones and Rick Jackson are showing a complete lack of leadership by refusing to support an extension of the gas tax suspension,” said Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Jake Strickland. “Jackson and Jones are too busy talking about Donald Trump to fight for real solutions that will put money back in Georgians’ pockets.”
This decision not to extend the gas tax suspension will raise the cost of gasoline by 33 cents a gallon – 37 cents a gallon for diesel – and in many parts of our state will push gas to well over $4 a gallon. Gas prices in Georgia currently average $3.83 per gallon, over a dollar more than they were on average per gallon in February.
Jones and Jackson have given Georgians no reason to believe that they’ll seriously work to lower gas prices.
- Jones is heir to the Jackson Petroleum Company, and even as Trump single-handedly caused gas prices to spike, Jones continues to praise the president, telling 11Alive recently, “I trust President Trump and what he’s doing over there in Iran.”
- Jackson has dodged questions about high gas prices on the campaign trail, and has strongly backed Trump’s Iran War that is causing gas prices to skyrocket.
