It’s nearly eighty days until Election Day – and Georgia Republicans remain as divided as ever.
This week, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution revealed that not even Donald Trump can end the nasty feud between Rick Jackson and Burt Jones – who are still locked in multiple, multimillion defamation lawsuits against each other. According to the new report, Jones told Trump he won’t back Jackson because he “spent $150 million trashing me and my family.” Those lingering divisions have Republican activists openly panicking, telling the AJC that they’re worried that Republicans’ post-primary divisions could sink Jackson in November.
If that’s not enough GOP drama – Jackson this week said that he didn’t plan on campaigning with Republican Senate nominee Mike Collins, who is under fire for his “close ties” to white nationalism, and the ongoing federal investigation into his illegal misuse of tax dollars. Collins’ scandals threaten to drag down Republicans up and down the ballot, including Jackson – who is under scrutiny for his record of profiting off of hospital closures and states’ failure to expand Medicaid.
And last but not least, Republican activists are currently suing their own state party for not trying to block Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger from the ballot. In other words, Republicans are still litigating the GOP gubernatorial primary – months after the fact. Sounds messy!
