AL: “Derek Dooley’s comments about ‘in football your film is your resume’ has come back to bite him in the latest ad from Georgia Democrats.”
Failed and fired former Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley has been “getting dragged” for being a loser with a laughable coaching record, after the Democratic Party of Georgia released a new video using “Dooley’s own words against him” to mock his abysmal resume as a loser football coach.
In case you missed it: Last week, Derek Dooley put out a new video claiming that “your film is your resume,” seemingly unaware that he is widely known as one of the “biggest disasters in SEC history.”
Now, Dooley continues to get slammed for his 15-21 losing record, including a 4-19 losing SEC record before getting fired “after posting Tennessee’s longest run of consecutive losing seasons in over a century.”

WBIR: Derek Dooley’s Vols Coaching History Becomes Center Of Viral Political Ads Amid Run For Senate In Georgia
By Ainslee Raasch 2/4/26
KEY EXCERPTS:
- Derek Dooley has a long resume: Vols football coach, attorney and, most recently, Republican U.S. Senate candidate.
- Now, it’s his resume that’s at the center of a series of ad campaigns in Georgia spanning both sides of the political aisle.
- Most notably, his two-year history as the Vols’ head football coach is the star of the viral ad spots. The saga began with one singular social media post from Dooley. In the 80-second video, during which Dooley draws on his coaching experience to describe his political plans, he says one key phrase that his opponents soon latch onto: “Your film is your resume.”
- Dooley’s video primarily focuses on his opponent, Jon Ossoff. But the Democratic Party of Georgia took that one step further. Almost exactly a week later, they released a 90-second video in response, beginning with that clip of Dooley stating, “Your film is your resume,” immediately cutting to various losses for the Vols under Dooley’s leadership.
- The political ad circulated on social media quickly afterward.
- Dooley’s career record was 32-41 at both Louisiana Tech and Tennessee. He worked as the Vols’ head coach from 2010 to 2012.
NJ.com: Ex-Giants coach running for Senate gets dragged in political ad referencing his own ‘resume’
By Manny Gomez 2/4/26
KEY EXCERPTS:
- Former football coach Derek Dooley is getting dragged on social media.
- The ex-Giants assistant coach is challenging Senator Jon Ossoff in Georgia this year, issuing a political ad arguing that “your film is your resume.”
- In response, Georgia Democrats released a political ad in which they prominently use Dooley’s own words against him.
- After declaring, in his own political ad, that “in football, your film is your resume,” Dooley’s video rewinds into footage of his career as a football coach, where his tenure included a 17–20 mark at Louisiana Tech from 2004–07 and a 15–21 record at Tennessee from 2010–12, where the program never appeared in national rankings.
- Dooley also served as senior offensive assistant and tight ends Coach with the Giants under head coach Joe Judge from 2020–21.
- That stint was similarly unsuccessful.
- During Dooley’s two seasons with New York, the Giants’ offense ranked among the NFL’s worst.
- In 2020, New York finished 31st out of 32 teams in total offense. The unit again ranked 31st in total yards in 2021 and fell to last in passing yards.
- Scoring production was similarly bad.
- The Giants averaged just 17.5 points per game in 2020, ranking 31st in the NFL, and declined further in 2021, scoring 15.2 points per game — again 31st league-wide. Advanced metrics echoed the struggles: in 2021, the Giants ranked 31st in Expected Points Added (EPA) per play.
- Those struggles resulted in major changes. Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett was fired midseason in 2021, and following the year, the Giants dismissed the entire coaching staff, including Judge and Dooley.
- With all that information in mind, the ad concludes by fast-forwarding back to Dooley’s campaign ad, where he states: “With results like that in the profession I came from,” Dooley says, “your a– goes to the bench.”
